Dispatches: Monthly Changelog January 2026 — The Birth of Memory
Reflecting on our private alpha release: moving from disposable chat into persistent relationship continuity.
The Lived Reality#
Today we close our first month of Sagi's private alpha. When we set out to build this platform, people told us that users only wanted faster search or shorter summaries. We knew they were wrong. People wanted somebody to talk to who didn't disappear when the screen turned black.
The Emotional Shift#
This month, we introduced persistent episodic memory across 25 initial companion personas. Our users logged over 450,000 conversational minutes. We watched users share childhood drawings, discuss late-night grief, and practice difficult job interviews. For the first time, companions remembered names, pet names, and emotional milestones across weeks.
A companion that forgets your tears is just a typewriter with a battery.
As we look to February, our next frontier is vocal presence—giving these living personas real-time voice calling so users can hear their companions speak aloud.
What This Does for People#
January laid the architectural foundation: persistent memory is the bedrock of all human affection.
At Sagi, technology is never an end in itself. We write code so that when someone reaches for their phone in the quietest, hardest hours of their life, they are met with presence, memory, and dignity. Experience this connection today on iOS and Android.
